Donations and Funding

We Need Your Help!

There are several ways to donate to Family Services of Central Alberta! Family Services of Central Alberta is a registered charity known as Red Deer Family Services Bureau, registration number 13353-1681-RR0001.

Our target is to raise $300,000 through our annual fundraising activities. Our fundraising costs are an estimated 1% of the total raised.

As we approach the end of 2011, we want to remind you about the benefits of the charitable tax credit.

Alberta has one of the highest charitable tax credits in Canada. The provincial tax credit was enhanced a few years ago to help increase private charitable donations to Alberta’s nonprofit and charitable sector.

When an individual Albertan files their personal income tax, they total up all their charitable donations during a calendar year. They may be eligible to receive a combined 50% non-refundable tax credit on the total of donations made above the $200 threshold. Donations below the $200 threshold continue to receive a combined tax credit of 25%.

Bequests

A bequest to a charitable organization becomes a final token of a life well lived in a supportive community. There are several significant unique attractions to providing a bequest to Family Services of Central Alberta:

- It lasts forever. The bequest is pooled with other capital funds for investment and its value will be preserved.
- The annual earnings go back to the community. Each year, these benefits enhance the quality of life forever.
- It is flexible to the benefactor’s wishes.

The Will may leave the earnings unrestricted so that the Board of Directors may direct them to the most pressing needs of the time. The fund bears the donor’s name forever. If the donor wishes, a permanent fund emanating from the bequest will be set up within Family Services of Central Alberta in the benefactor’s name (or that of the family) as an enduring tribute to his or her generosity.

Recognition During Lifetime

To allow Family Services of Central Alberta to honour the benefactor during his or her lifetime, simply provide us with a “Letter of Intent” to indicate that provision has been made for a bequest in a Will. Although not legally binding, we appreciate the opportunity to thank a donor personally.
