Programs - Seniors - Sharing Wisdom

We would like to invite senior woman living in Central Alberta to participate in a new event put on by Family Services of Central Alberta called Sharing Wisdom. This event takes place on June 21st, 2010 from 8:30am until 3:30pm at Crossroads Church in Red Deer.

The goal of Sharing Wisdom is to purposefully and consciously honour the gifts of all senior women and to strive to provide for their needs and well-being through this event. We plan to provide opportunities for attendees to connect with other women and identify ways that they can establish and maintain active roles in their community. One of our presenters, registered family therapist and registered nurse Maureen Osis, will be speaking on "Aging with Purpose". Maureen is also the founder of the group Elder Wise and specializes in counselling older adults and their families.

In addition to our keynote speaker, we will be offering a variety of workshops on topics including volunteering at any age, living on a fixed income, medication safety, active living, how to recognize depression and change it support for caregivers, the Alberta Seniors Benefit, fraud protection, personal safety, and gardening. A resource fair will also be set up with vendors from businesses and non-profit agencies throughout Central Alberta to display resources of interest to senior women.

If you are interested in participating in or supporting this event, please refer to our letter of support (Adobe document) or visit our volunteer page to volunteer at this event.

Sharing Wisdom hopes to see 250 senior women attend from across Central Alberta. Admission is free and transportation will be provided at no charge to those requiring it.

Thanks for your interest in this event and we hope to see you June 21st!
