Programs - Seniors - Adult Day Program - Testimonials

Clients
This program is designed to provide a safe, non threatening environment for people with diminished mental capabilities. The activities are designed for participation at any mental level and are done in a fun way. It gives people a chance to socialize in a comfortable atmosphere without pressure to conform. They often talk more and interact with others more than in a standard situation where they can't keep up with the conversation, or comprehend a change of subject matter. There is much fun and laughter as each client participates according to their ability without any expectations or judgment. It all helps to keep their minds as active as possible.
Caregivers
This job is usually 24/7 every day of the year. Even though this job is done with love, it is very wearing and caregivers need a break, and a chance to renew their spirit. Caregivers know that when their loved ones are at this program, they are VERY well looked after, so it is an excellent time to make appointments, visit friends, shop, or just relax for a few hours. It is amazing how refreshing it feels to have a break, so they can continue with a fresh perspective and more patience.
The Adult Day program provides for us not only the break we need but also the stimulation that we as caregivers cannot always do (or have the energy or time). The workers of the day program are excellent at keeping everyone with each of their special needs involved. Those with the disability enjoy the outing that is in a safe special needs environment. The staff plans for the program keeping in mind the needs of the clients individually and as a group. Without this program, I am sure that I would not have been able to keep my loved one at home. There would be no way. As much as I try, I just can't do it alone. I appreciate what this program has done not just for my loved one, but for me and my entire family. Thank you.
Staff
My personal knowledge of the staff has been wonderful. They are all very caring, patient, and loving. They are very involved in many varied activities with the clients from gamers, walks, physical therapy and socializing skills. The clients are happy to see them when they arrive and are greeted by name at the door. At lunch time, a great meal is served, as well as coffee breaks and snacks during the day. The amount of patience and love shown to both clients and their families, while doing a difficult job, is inspiring. The staff all deserves a very big vote of thanks.
Family Services provides a wonderful service to this region with this program. The fees are minimal and subsidized if necessary. The participants enjoy a change of scene and get to socialize with other people instead of just being isolated due to their inability to comprehend in normal situations. As the population ages and health care services are in decline, more Albertans will depend on family for care. Those caregivers, who are often elderly spouses, need some respite, or there will be more senior abuse as people get worn down and unless they have family close by, often feel trapped in their own home.
