Programs - Seniors - Adult Day Program - What a Day Looks Like

Our days at Adult Day Program start with a time of 'Meet and Greet' where we get everyone settled as they arrive. We serve coffee and a snack, discuss our day, current events and follow conversation where ever it takes us.
From there we move on to 'Stretch Your Mind'. Our goal here is to get our brains awake and working. Stretch your mind usually has a theme where we ask questions related to the theme. We also play a variety of word games such as Hang Man, rhyming words and word searches. During this time and throughout the day we work very hard to gear our activities to everyone's cognitive level. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, to feel success and to be able to contribute to the activity. After exercising our minds it is time to exercise our bodies. We have a variety of games we enjoy playing.
Once we have worked up an appetite it is time for a homemade, nutritious lunch. In order to let lunch settle, we do a quiet activity next. We enjoy activities such as listening to stories, playing a variety of word games, our version of Jeopardy or watching an episode of an old sitcom. Some of our seniors enjoy a rest after lunch; we have recliners that allow them to do so.
If the weather allows us, we go for a walk in the afternoon. There is a paved path around the building which is the perfect length for a chance to get some exercise and fresh air. For those unable to walk, we have wheelchairs so that everyone can participate. In the winter, or when the weather uncooperative, we do a 'Sit and Be Fit' session.
The rest of our day is spent in a number of different ways. We try to have a monthly theme day. If the month has a holiday in it then we use that as our theme, if there is no holiday that month then we find another theme. For example, in January we enjoyed a Hawaiian Day. Our activities all had a Hawaiian flavor, as did our lunch.
By 3:00pm when our day is done we say good-bye and look forward to when we meet again!
