Parent Night, February 19th - "Kids Have Stress Too!"


Make a date! Come with your spouse or a group of friends. Join us for coffee and dessert along with an opportunity to hear Line Perron share with us her knowledge around "Kids have Stress Too!". Please see the Parent Night poster in the left-hand column.


Did you know?


  • Stress can affect children's physical, emotional, social and intellectual well being.
  • Children experience everyday stress in a different way than adults.
  • Extreme stress can have a negative effect on brain development in very young children.
  • Children under stress have weakened immune systems and are three times more likely to catch respiratory infections.

We will look at the signs and symptoms of stress in young children, stressors and explore everyday strategies that we can use to help buffer our children against the increasing stressors in their lives and build resilient confident children.

The Conference - February 20th


Parenting is more than using your power to get children to behave in certain ways. Whether you are just getting started or you need some fresh ideas, or new information "Parents Matter - Parenting the New Olympic Sport" is the event for you. Parents Matter brings together parents, educators, foster parents, and community members who work with children for a one day educational conference complete with a keynote and break-out sessions.


This conference is to support and empower all those engaged in raising and educating children of today. For your convenience we have limited child care available and a catered box lunch is available as part of your registration.


Our Keynote this is year is Line Perron - "Parenting the New Olympic Sport"- From toys to technology to team sports, parents struggle to meet the societal pressures to be "good parents" often at the expense of their own sanity and wellness. Parenting has evolved into an Olympic sport and with that has come the pressure, the judgment and the stress. Our keynote speaker will examine the stress of parenting today and how we can fight the urge to keep up with trendy culture to get back to the basics of parenting.

KeyNote Speaker - 8:45am-9:30am
Break-out sessions - 9:45am-10:45am AND 11:00am-12:00pm
Lunch - 12:00pm-1:00pm
Break-out sessions - 1:15-2:15pm AND 2:30-3:30pm
Wrap-up - 3:30pm

Professional Workshop, February 19th - "Raising Socially and Emotionally Competent Children


This one day workshop will focus on giving kids the necessary social and emotional competencies to help them navigate relationships and their world. We will look at the "and" piece of caregiver/child relationships and explore the dynamics that support healthy development. What is our role as caregivers and how do our hot buttons create unproductive dynamics? What motivates children's challenging behaviors and how do we respond effectively? Is there such a thing as being too responsive and understanding to our children's needs?

KeyNote Speaker


Line Perron brings over 20 years of facilitation and teaching experience to her role as the CEO of Early Childhood Development Support Services. Line received her Degree in Psychology and Masters in Family Life Education from the University of Alberta and then pursued an Indigenous Early Childhood Development Leadership Management certification from the University of Victoria. She has spent the last 10 years dedicated to empowering parents and children and building strong communities.
