History of Family Services of Central Alberta
1963 - A Citizen Committee was formed and a need was identified for a public service in Red Deer
1964 - After two years of study and about five months of intensive preparations, Red Deer Family Service Bureau opened its' doors with one counselor from Calgary who worked one a week in Red Deer.
1967 - New legislation resulted in a firm financial base for the Bureau. Its' budget of approximately $4,300 for 1966 was increased to more than $16,000 in 1967.
1971 - On June 29th, 1971, Red Deer Family Service Bureau was incorporated.
1975 - Homemaking Services and "Beginnings", the marriage preparation course started being offered.
1982 - A counseling wait list of 20 families resulted in the hiring of two psychologists to bring the total counseling staff to four.
1984 - Rapidly growing, there were 30 part-time employees, 18 volunteers and a 16 member Board of Directors. Programs included Counseling, Homemaking
Services, Family Life Education and a Group Foster home.
1995 - The Infant Pre-School Wellness program joined the Agency.
1996 - The Adult Day Program pilot project was first offered.
1999 - Red Deer Family Services took on a new name and logo in 1999, and the Agency joined all of the programs under one roof.
2001 - We celebrated our 30th Anniversary in 2001.
2002 - Healthy Families came under the umbrella of Red Deer Family Services in June of 2002.
2004 - FSCA became a designated Parent Link Centre.
2006 - Purchased and renovated a new downtown building at 5409 - 50th Avenue.
2007 - A national initiative funded by HRSDC, Understanding the Early Years was launched.
2007 - In May, the first annual Central Alberta Children's Festival was successfully coordinated by FSCA.
2007 - FSCA became the recipients of the proceeds of Rotary Sunrise 'An Evening in Monte Carlo' fundraiser.
2008 - Kids Matter, a program for children ages 6 - 11 years, began.
2009 - A 120 foot long mural is completed on the wall of our downtown location.
