A Parent Story - 2008
"I am excited and honored to be writing this letter regarding my experience with Family Services of Central Alberta. I am a fairly knowledgeable, successful person, healthy and active. However, after the birth of my first child I felt very different about myself. My sweet daughter came out kicking and screaming and 10 months later was still kicking and screaming and not sleeping. I felt like a failure. In the fall of 2007 when my daughter was almost one I found out about the home visitation program through Family Services of Central Alberta. A home visitor began visiting our home and I began to feel sane again for the first time since the delivery. I learned that the crying and lack of sleep were not my fault. We were provided with local resources, valuable growth information and real life strategies for getting through parenting not just surviving it. As my confidence as a person began to return, I also was beginning to see that I wasn't actually failing as a mother, I was actually a pretty darn good one. Responding to my daughter's needs, creating a safe world for her and healthy attachment. Wow what a relief and life changing frame of mind. I recommend to everyone and love to share my experience with home visitation. I no longer feel I have failed and now believe wholeheartedly in the parent I am because of accessing home visitation services through this agency."
