The Building Incredible Babies program has been helping young pregnant moms to experience a healthy pregnancy and deliver healthy babies for the past eleven years.
Our trained outreach workers visit expecting mothers in their own homes to provide pregnancy and parenting information as well as providing life skills coaching and financial literacy advice. When needed, food coupons good at participating local grocery stores are made available as well.
Expectant mothers living in Sylvan Lake or Red Deer can be connected to other community supports and services that will assist them in having a healthy pregnancy and birth as well as supporting them in making their own best choices for the future of them and their babies.
The Building Incredible Babies Program provides support for anyone who:
- is pregnant and experiencing difficulty in having enough healthy food to eat
- would like to know more about making healthy choices during pregnancy
- wants to know how to care for and feed her baby the best way possible
- feels lonely and would like some support
Direct referrals to appropriate community services are offered based on need. After baby is born, Building Incredible Babies can offer breastfeeding information and support; connect moms with community supports and services as well as parenting groups and may offer coupons for free food for breastfeeding moms as well as free vitamin D drops for baby.
A story from a client:
“I am a 17 year old mom of a 5 month old baby girl. I joined Building Incredible Babies when I was four months along in my pregnancy and was living with an aunt. I was unsure of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. The outreach worker came and listened to my story and offered information on healthy choices for my pregnancy. We talked about nutrition and taking care of me. She connected me with a dietitian, individual counseling, prenatal classes, a free library card and a parenting group. She has cheered me on with watching me nurse my baby.”
Family Services of Central Alberta serves more than 100 expectant Moms every year through the Building Incredible Babies Program. These Moms want the best for their babies and so do we!
Our Program provides expectant Moms with a Pregnancy information binder,
a cookbook and some teaching around cooking, nutritional supplements including milk, eggs and fruit and vegetable coupons as well as prenatal vitamins and vitamin D drops for baby. We encourage breastfeeding and try to offer incentives for Moms who work at breastfeeding their babies.
